Amazing happenings at GMA UK

Organizing an event is a difficult task and as such, those who dedicated their lives to putting events together be it a success or not should be commended. There will always be a room for improvement and as times goes, it will reach its true potential. We should not write off an event and think it might never be successful.

The Oscars, Grammys and the Mobo Awards did not just become household names; they had their setbacks too from their initiations. Akwaaba UK; organizers of the Miss Ghana UK beauty pagent led by its leader, Dennis Radical D and Frank "Fire" Adjei and Eric Mckaiser of Easy Media Empire/GMA UK should be given a huge round of applause for dedicating their lives to coming up with a concept to promote the Ghanaian beauty and also the Ghanaian music respectively giving them the recognition they deserve.

The GMA UK 2005 before its due date had its shortfalls but through hard work, the event came on. While the event was very well attended, it needs room for improvement and should not be written off. Sources close to this writer said there were some phone-ins at various Ghanaian radio stations regarding their mixed reviews. We should give Easy Media Empire the benefit of the doubt and encourage them to correct the mistakes that happened so next year could be better.

The artists who performed did a wonderful job and entertained the audience to a great deal.

Obrafuor did not win any award and yet he was part of it and gave an awesome performance. In an exclusive interview with GHP, The rap priest made it known that he had been working harder to come up with a new album for his fans worldwide anxiously waiting for his next masterpiece. He assures his fans that the 10 piece album is definitely going to make some noise. He went on to state that the album was due in November so watch out for more information on that.

Nana Quame, the sweet voice of "Atiadonko fame" performed and his accappella of the renowned song; was worth listening to. This young singer has a bright future and should continue coming up with hits after hits after hits.

Reggie Rockstone is a legend and a "London boy". He started this hiplife game in London and took it to Ghana. His performance was as always encouraging and inspiring. Reggie is a friendly guy who took photographs with his fans because he appreciates those who have supported him over the years. When he came on stage, he asked the audience to observe a minute of silence for the late Suzie Williams who starred in his award-winning video. Reggie made it known that he is working on a new material and definitely going to come up with what the fans had been waiting for.

2face Idibia - The Nigerian singer came to present an award and came with his "entourage". While the singer is a nice guy and the audience loved the song of the artist; "African Queen", his personal assistant or female PR who came with him must learn to be co-operative and nice. Must represent 2face in a great light and not be seen as ignorant and cheeky. Probably she expects recognition as a great PR person. Creating a great perception is good for the artist but acting immaturely and causing a scene does not look good. A PR person must have an ear to listen and be friendly. 2face has a bright future and if his PR person is seen as the opposite then it will be bad for the artist. I hope 2face will keep an eye on everything going on around him. Taken from a good advice from Oprah "Make sure you write your own check".

Obour - "Mr. Konkontibaa" has had 2 solid amazing years and also deserves a standing ovation. His stage performance was incredible and must continue to be a role model to the youth.

Sway - A British born Hip-pop artist with a Ghanaian parentage recently won the Mobo Awards beating rapper 50 cents and others in the Best Hip-pop category. The artist is not signed to a major record label but is becoming a force to be reckoned with. He won the Best Urban Act also at the GMA UK. He said he was proud to be part of the GMA UK also to have won an award. The MC, KKD requested freestyle from Sway and the artist was superb.

Michael Watson - His memorable tragedy touched millions in London and coming to the event to support it was great. He raised his hands to thank the audience as he gave a brief remark and impacted on the audience. Michael has a strong heart and many up and coming boxers should get inspiration from him.

Charles Amoah - The one of the legends who added an R&B flavour to Highlife making it more funky to our ears had a solid performance and proved that experience is the best teacher. Music is a God given gift and he surely has it.

Others in need of acknowledgment include; Ivor Agyeman Duah, Minister Counsellor, Ghana High Commission UK, Ben Brako, Voice of Africa Radio, DJ Alordia who provided the music, Evans Boadi of Ghanatoday.com, Edmund and his crew from West Coast Entertainment and other radio stations.

WATCH OUT FOR GMA UK 2006.
