Sekondi, Aug. 5 - GNA - The Sekondi Sub-Metropolitan office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has since its inception registered 26,000 people out of which a total of 150 million cedis has been collected as premiums.
Madam Aba Walters, Public Relations Officer of the scheme told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an an interview at Sekondi on Friday. She said the photo-taking exercise which began on July 18, had registered 6,138 people.
Mrs. Josephine Eshun, PRO of the Takoradi Sub-metro said a total of 22,436 people had registered with the scheme, while 5,336 have taken their photographs for their identification cards. She said out of the registered members, only 536 people have fully paid their premiums adding that the scheme had mobilised a total of 115,61,250 million cedis.
She explained that 15,298 informal sector and 7,138 formal sector workers had registered as members of the scheme.
Mrs Eshun stressed that lack of logistics and a means of transport was making their work difficult.
She therefore, appealed to churches, voluntary groups and other identifiable groups to invite personnel of the NHIS to assist in educating their members.
