The Mfantseman Municipal Disease Control Officer, Ms Helena Tibiru has appealed to parents and guardians to provide separate sponges and towels for their children.

She said the situation where parents and guardians shared sponges and towels with their children or where children shared the items with their siblings must be discouraged forthwith.

Ms Tibiru gave the advice at an HIV and AIDS education campaign organised by Kormantse Compassion for the Children, a non-governmental organisation at Kormantse in the Mfantseman Municipality.

She said even though sponges and towels did not transmit HIV, they could spread contagious skin diseases.

Ms Tibiru advised the children not to discriminate against people living with HIV/AIDS disease but to show love and compassion for them.

She said HIV/AIDS could not be transmitted through playing, sleeping or eating with an infested person and urged them to be nice with friends and relatives who had the disease.**
