Accra, March 4, GNA - The Parliamentary Committee on Health on Wednesday donated GH¢10,000 to the Mamobi Polyclinic to be used to impr= ove facilities at the clinic.
Dr Mustapha Ahmed, Chairman of the Committee presenting the money sa= id it was the widow's mite of the Committee to the clinic and called on the clinic management to use it judiciously. He promised further assistance to the clinic to enable it deliver quality health service to people.
Dr Ahmed said the Committee selected Mamobi Polyclinic mainly becaus= e it wanted to acquaint itself of how the automation process of claims unde= r the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was being conducted at the clinic.
He said Mamobi Polyclinic though had many challenges was selected to= run the pilot automation, which would later be replicated in all health facilities in the country.
He said the computerized system was introduced to check fraud in the= issuance of the claims, which was a huge loss to the state. Dr Ahmed told the workers of the clinic to work hard to ensure the success of the programme.
Mr Mark Anakuga, Head of Finance of the Mamobi Polyclinic, said the introduction of the computerised system claims, were sent to Accra office= of NHIS daily. He noted that the Committee was the mouthpiece of all health personn= el in Ghana as they would do their best to hold government to its promises a= s far health issues were concerned. Dr Mildred Kumasah, Principal Medical Officer of the Mamobi Polyclin= ic said the clinic is faced with problems such as water, personnel and limit= ed facilities. A one-storey building, which according to her was to serve as theatr= es, offices and wards, was abandoned some years ago. She said the clinic was to be upgraded to a hospital status but fail= ed to meet the requirement particularly for recovery unit.
Dr Kumasah identified water as their major problem but added that it=
would soon be over as the clinic now had two bore holes one constructed b= y the administration and the other by a philanthropic. On the allegation that Mamobi Polyclinic is noted for sacking doctor= s, Dr Kumasa explained that the case in question was about some doctors who misbehaved and were dismissed. She said the decision was taken after thorough investigation into th= e matter by the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Services. 4 March 10
