Accra, March 4, GNA - The Parliamentary Committee on Health, on Wednesday donated GH A210,000 to the Mamobi Polyclinic for the improveme= nt of facilities there. Dr Mustapha Ahmed, chairman of the Committee, presenting the money, when its members toured the clinic on Wednesday, said it was the widow's might of the group to the health facility and called on its management to=
use it judiciously.
He said the Committee would support the clinic to improve health delivery to the people.
Dr Ahmed said the members toured the clinic to acquaint themselves w= ith how the automation of claims under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was operating. He said Mamobi Polyclinic though had many challenges was selected to=
run the pilot automation, which would later be replicated in all health facilities in the country.
He said the computerised system was introduced to eradicate fraud in=
the NHIS, which constituted a huge loss of money to the state and advised=
the workers to work hard to ensure the success of the programme. Mr. Mark Anakuga, Head of Finance of the Polyclinic, said that with the introduction of the system, claims were sent to Accra office of NHIS dail= y. He noted that the Committee was the eye, ears, and mouthpiece of all=
health personnel in Ghana and asked the members to hold government to its=
promises as far health issues were concerned.
Dr. Mildred Kumasah, Principal Medical Officer of the Polyclinic, sa= id the facility was faced with problems such as lack of adequate water suppl= y, inadequate personnel and limited facilities.
A one storey building, which according to her was to serve as theatr= es, offices and wards was abandoned some years ago. Dr. Mildred Kumasah said the clinic was to be upgraded to a hospital=
status but failed to meet the requirement. She the clinic now had two bore holes one constructed by the administration and the other by a philanthropic. On the allegation that the Polyclinic was notorious for sacking doctors, Dr. Kumasa said some doctors who misbehaved were dismissed from the clinic. She said the decision was taken after thorough investigation into th= e matter by the Greater Accra Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Services.
