Patients in Oguaa receiving healthcare despite strike

Despite the indefinite nationwide strike declared by public sector doctors, patients who visit public hospitals in the Cape Coast Metropolis, are being taken care of.

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) declared a nationwide strike on Thursday, July 30, starting with the withdrawal of out-patient department (OPD) services.

The decision followed the failure of government to provide them with their conditions of service after the expiration of the final deadline on Wednesday.

However, checks by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Friday indicated that doctors at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) and Adisadel Health Centre, were still at post and attending to patients.

The Public Relations Officer of CCTH, Mr. Simmons Yussif Kewura, gave the assurance in an interview with the GNA that all patients who visited the hospital would be attended to, despite the strike.

He said the hospital was committed to safeguarding the lives of patients.

Although doctors at the Metropolitan Hospital were not at post, a source at the Hospital said one doctor and some VSO doctors were attending to patients, while Medical Assistants were also expected to aid them later.
