Kumasi, Oct. 30, GNA - The KNUST local branch of the Pax Romana, a Catholic students movement, on Saturday donated 60 million cedis to the Children's Department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The money was realized at a choral musical concert (choralfest), organized by the movement's choir under its "Advocacy on child health in Ghana and Mobilisation of support for the child health" department of KATH project.
It would be used to purchase LCD projector for the department, pay off total dept owned the department by 16 patients, buy Nuebilizer to treat people with asthma and bronchitis's, purchase bed sheets, BP apparatus, suctions and electronic thermometers and a video documentary screening on TV.
Ten million cedis out of the amount would be used to cater for emergency needs of the department.
Presenting the money, Mr. Paul Mba Yelzaalem, Project Coordinator, said "the movement had a social orientation and had always kept its door open to the crying needs of society."
He said the movement had embarked on a programme to educate the public on basic health issues affecting the children in society. Mr. Yelzaalem thanked organizations, which helped them to mobilize the fund for the project.
Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, Chief Executive of the hospital, thanked the students for the gesture.
He said the hospital had undertaken initiatives to improve child health delivery and reduce mortality at the hospital. Dr. Nsiah Asare appealed to other organizations and individuals to assist the hospital in order to offer quality health care delivery to the people.
