The Upper West Regional Programme Unit of Plan International Ghana has donated a cheque for GHC20,000.00 to support the Regional Health Directorate in the fight against the outbreak of Cerebral Spinal Meningitis (CSM) in the region.
This donation comes a week after the organization donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) comprising 30 pieces each of hand sanitizers, liquid soap, and veronica buckets as well as 60 boxes of Aquataps for water purification.
Mr Kamaldeen Iddrisu, the District Development Coordinator, Upper West Regional Programme Unit of Plan International Ghana, presented the dummy cheque to the Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, on Friday.
He said CSM had already claimed 40 lives in the Region, adding that as a key development partner of the Region, Plan Ghana deemed it fit to contribute to the fight against the eradication of the disease.
Dr Bin Salih thanked the Upper West Programme Unit of Plan International Ghana for its continued donation to the fight against the two diseases, adding that government alone could not provide all that the Region needed to fight the diseases.
He said the donation was the second time the region received cash donation as Togbe Afede, President of the National House of Chiefs also made a cash donation of GHC50,000.00 to support the CSM fight.
He noted that while the entire country was fighting COVID-19, they in the Upper West Region had the additional responsibility of fighting CSM, which he described as challenging as it had stressed them to the limit.
The Regional Minister assured that every pesewa donated would be put to good use to ensure the eradication of the disease and appealed for more donations from institutions and philanthropists.
