A routine patrol operation by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team in Bole on Tuesday October 14, 2025, turned into a humanitarian act when officers voluntarily donated blood to save a colleague and support the local hospital’s blood bank.

The operation, led by DSP Karim Mahama and ASP Bawah Abdul Jalil, formed part of ongoing peace-building and law enforcement efforts within Bole Township and its environs.

A total of 70 personnel, supported by six service vehicles and ten motorbikes, were deployed to ensure effective coverage of the area.

The team assembled at 9:00 a.m., where officers were briefed on professionalism, vigilance and teamwork before setting out.

Shortly after the patrol began, the team learned that one of their colleagues had been admitted to the Bole District Hospital and was in urgent need of a blood transfusion.

Accrdoing to a police statement, "Medical officials disclosed that the officer’s blood volume had dropped to 3.8 liters, well below the normal level of 11 liters, posing a serious health risk.

"With limited blood available at the hospital, only one unit could initially be administered. In response, the leadership of the Special Operations Team made an immediate call for voluntary blood donation among personnel."

The statement added, "All deployed officers volunteered to donate blood, an act that not only helped their colleague but also replenished the hospital’s dwindling blood supply."

The Bole District Hospital Administration expressed appreciation to the police team, noting that voluntary blood donation remains a persistent challenge in the community.

Hospital officials described the officers’ gesture as a “selfless and life-saving contribution” that would benefit multiple patients beyond the police service.

ASP Bawah Abdul Jalil reiterated the team’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the Bole area.

He noted that the blood donation exemplifies the police service’s broader mission and not only to protect lives and property but also to uphold the spirit of humanity and community support.
