Polytanks (Gh) Ltd, the market leader in the production of plastic water storage tanks in West Africa, has presented two pieces of the 4,500 litre tanks to the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to help fight against cholera in the metropolis.

The tanks worth over three thousand cedis would be distributed to the hardest hit cholera communities since the outbreak of the disease in the metropolis some few months ago.

Presenting the tanks, Jonathan Osei-Bonsu, Administrative Manager of the Mohinani Group, the parent company of Polytanks, said the donation was in response to an appeal made to the Group by authorities of the TMA to help contain the disease.

Mr. Osei-Bonsu said the provision of the water tanks was also in fulfillment of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) of “ensuring that all Ghanaians have constant access to clean, safe drinking water”.

He noted that apart from insanitary conditions, the lack of access to drinkable water by some residents has been identified as a major contributor to the cholera endemic.

He added that the water storage tanks were therefore to help the beneficiary communities to conserve water for their daily use in order to prevent the spread of the disease and also save lives.

“We are providing these tanks not only to fight against cholera but also to help beneficiaries to have sustainable access to safe drinking water as our contribution to help Ghana achieve the Goal 7 of the Millennium Development Goals next year”, he added.

“Polytanks’ remains committed to assisting all communities especially the deprived in preserving clean water for all purposes “be it domestic; drinking and or personal hygiene because we believe that water is life”, he said.

He urged the beneficiary communities to keep the water tanks and the surroundings where they would be mounted clean to prevent any water contamination.

He in addition advised the communities to maintain good sanitary practices to help reduce the spread of the disease.

Receiving the water tanks, Madam Matilda Mahama, Head of Community Development and Social Welfare at the TMA, expressed her gratitude to Polytanks for its prompt response to the TMA’s appeal.

Madam Mahama noted that the gesture would go a long way in controlling the spread of disease in the metropolis and called on other corporate entities to emulate the kind gesture shown by Polytanks.

She said the tanks will be placed at vantage points in the metropolis where residents can easily access the clean water.
