Boamang (Ash), Feb. 16, GNA - Mrs Gladys Oduro, Chief Medical Director in Charge of the Boamang Health Centre in the Afigya-Kwabre District, has called on the government to provide the Centre with an Ambulance.

She said the provision of the facility would not only support emergency referral cases to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi and the Saint Patrick Hospital at Maase in Offinso but would also help to convey patients from remote areas to the Centre. Mrs. Oduro made the call when members of the South Afigya Association of Toronto in Canada presented assorted items, made up of Square Pads, Towels, Bed sheets and Bed spread worth GH¢700 to the Centre at Boamang on Friday. The Medical Director said the Health Centre has a Maternal and Child Care (MCH) Unit, Maternity Unit and the Out Patient Department (OPD) and stressed that what was needed now was the construction of Wards and called for support in that direction. She thanked the donors for the gesture stressing that the items would go a long way to promote healthy-care delivery system at the Centre.

Mr Akwasi Karikari Achamfour, Afigya-Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE) who received the items on behalf of the Centre, commended members of the Association for their initiative, stressing that, what they had done goes a long way to support the government's efforts of ensuring quality health care delivery to the people in the rural areas. He said "this is what the government expects from Non-Governmental Organizations, Societies, Philanthropists and Institutions since the government alone cannot do it considering the numerous commitments it has to fulfill".

Miss. Beatrice Wiafe-Akenten, a member of the Association, who presented the items, said it was their widow's mite to help in the effective health-care delivery in the area and intended to support the development efforts of the people any time the need arises.
