Provide accommodation for nurses at health institutions

Saltpond (CR), July 14, GNA- Mr Derrick Owusu-Ambrose, a Pharmacist at the Saltpond Government Hospital, has appealed to the Ghana Health Service and District Assemblies to provide accommodation for nurses to facilitate their work.

Mr Owusu-Ambrose said the present situation where nurses stayed far away from hospitals and clinics due to the lack of accommodation was an impediment to quick health delivery especially with the take off of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

"Work load at health facilities would triple when the scheme takes off and hospital staff will be called upon to work around the clock to meet the challenge", he said.

The Pharmacist made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Saltpond on Wednesday.

He pointed out that none of the 36 nurses at the Saltpond Hospital was staying at the health facility. "Most of them were staying in Cape Coast, Anomabo and Mankessim" and stressed that since they did not have their own means of transport they were always late for work and close early. 14 July 05
