Accra, June 16, GNA - The Ghana Health Service (GHC) on Thursday alerted the general public of an increase in the number of cholera cases being reported at health institutions in the Greater Accra Region. A statement issued and signed by the Greater Accra Regional Director of Ghana Health Services, Dr. Irene A. Agyepong, urged persons who have frequent loose watery stools and vomiting to rush to the nearest clinic or hospital for treatment.

It assured the public that all government health facilities in the region were resourced to handle cholera cases and that treatment for cholera was free.

The statement also called on the public to wash their hands with soap and water before eating after the use of the toilet. It said the public must wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating, as well as cover their food and water to keep flies away. It said they should eat food whilst hot or warm and avoid buying cooked food, which is cold or exposed to dust and flies.
