Remote communities receive tricycle ambulances

Two NGO’s have presented tricycle ambulances to three remote communities in the Northern Region to transport pregnant women to the nearest health facilities to reduce maternal and infant mortalities.

Tuma Kavi Development Association (TKDA) and Baptist Child Development Programme (BCDP) presented the tricycles to Savelugu/Nanton Municipality, Tolon and the Saboba districts.

The Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) funded the procurement of the tricycles for TKDA and BCDP for Kasuliyili, Zogu and Demong communities.

Madam Vivian Awabu Sumani, programme’s officer of TKDA said the selection of the communities to receive the tricycle ambulances was because of the high maternal deaths in the recorded in the three localities.

She said Tuma Kavi is interested in the welfare of people in rural communities especially women and children hence the need to take measures to address infant and maternal mortalities in its operational areas.

Mr Evans Sinkare, Programmes Manager of CCFC said the Fund would continue to support its partner NGOs in the region to help the less privileged in the society as its contribution of helping address poverty, illiteracy and malnutrition.

He said the main aim of CCFC is to create a future of hope for children, families, and communities by helping them develop their skills and resources to overcome poverty and pursue justice and would continue to give the vulnerable a future of hope.

Madam Joana Quarnoo, Savelugu/Nanton Municipal Director of Health Services who received the tricycle ambulances on behalf of the beneficiary communities expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying it would facilitate the reduction of maternal and infant mortalities.

Madam Akusua Baka, Country Director of CCFC who presented the tricycle ambulances to the beneficiaries advised them to use them for their intended purpose.
