USA-based non-profit medical charity, Restore Mission in collaboration with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) are set to provide free plastic and reconstructive surgeries to needy patients during its 2016 mission to the hospital.
Scores of patients with burns and other congenital body surface abnormalities are expected to receive corrective surgeries during this humanitarian surgical mission to KATH by the USA-based non-profit medical charity.
Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso, Consultant and Head of the Plastic, Burns and Reconstructive Surgery Unit of the Surgery Directorate of KATH, told Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice in an interview that, beneficiaries are not expected to pay for the surgeries.
He said selection of patients for the surgeries was scheduled between Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, September 1st -31, 2016 at the Specialist Consulting Room 9 ‘C’ at KATH.
“This programme is targeted at clients and patients with body surface and other functional deformities including post-burn deformities, very bad scars and wounds.
“People with congenital abnormalities in areas such as the face, neck, chest, arms, legs, hands and the feet are also encouraged to take advantage to get their deformities corrected,” he stated.
Dr. Owusu-Danso said plastic and reconstructive surgeries could be very expensive, expressing appreciation to Restore Mission for the collaboration; patients selected for the programme would not pay for the cost of their surgeries.
“What we expect is that insured patients would bring along their National Health Insurance (NHIS) cards to reduce the local component of the cost of the surgeries,” he advised.
Dr. Owusu-Danso stressed that patients who fail to show up during the screening period from September 1-23, 2016 would not be entertained when the selection period elapses.
He therefore, urged all interested members of the public to take note of the screening period and report to the Specialist Consulting Room 9 ‘C’ on the said days to undergo the screening and selection procedures.
