Rotary Club in Kumasi sponsored more than 1000 residents for medical eye check-up
Ghanaians should strive to make medical eye check-up feature prominently in their lives, Mrs. Gifty Odartey, President-elect of the Kumasi Nhyiaeso branch of the Rotary Club International, a benevolent organization, has said.
She said this could help identify any signs of visual impairment that could be developing in one’s eye on time, for prompt medical correction.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, Mrs. Odartey said it was important that the citizenry took the necessary precaution in order not to lose their eyesight prematurely.
This was after the Rotary Club had teamed up with medical eye specialists to perform free eye screening exercise on more than 1000 residents of Nhyiaeso and its environs at the Mater Dei Clinic.
The medical team screened the beneficiaries for short-sightedness, glaucoma, cataract, and other eye diseases.
In all, 500 people were presented with medicated spectacles, and those with severe cases were referred to seek further medical attention.
Mrs. Odartey said the vision of the Club was to restore sight to those in need, adding that, as an organization which stood for the welfare of humanity, they would not relent in reaching out to the people.
She advised Ghanaians to avoid smoking and other lifestyles likely to put their health in danger.
The Reverend Solomon Acquah, a Minister of the Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, and member of the organization, called for greater discipline amongst the citizenry as to how they led their lives.
He stressed the need for the well-to-do in the society to come to the aid of the poor and needy in order to transform their lives.
