The St John Hospital at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Brong Ahafo Region has taken delivery of essential medical items, geared towards boosting medical care at the hospital.

The largesse was made possible following the timely intervention of Samaria Ayemye Emma Som (SAMS), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) which supports social development.

The items, worth several thousand Ghana cedis include 120 pieces of hospital bed sheets, 120 pieces of pillow cases and medicines, among other clinical service equipment.

The NGO also presented 180 bed sheets and 180 pillow cases to the Afari Community Health Centre in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region to enhance their delivery.

Charles Dominic Kwadwo Amankwa, founder of SAMS, said the presentations formed part of the charity organisation and social responsibilities of his NGO to boost healthcare in the country.

According to him, the organisation, formed in 1980, had over the years assisted many top health institutions across the country, including Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in diverse ways.

He assured that SAMS is well positioned to offer necessary assistance to other health institutions that may need help, urging the beneficiaries to take good care f the items presented to ensure their longevity.

Dr Kobina Tsibo Takyi, senior medical superintendent of St John Hospital, who received the items on behalf of management, applauded the NGO for the kind gesture, promising to take proper care of the items.

He recounted with concerns the huge amount of money that the hospital usually expended in buying bed sheets and pillow cases annually, adding that the timely donation had lessened the financial burden on the hospital.

Meanwhile, SAMS has in another donation presented 102 half pieces of cloth to selected widows, number of pieces of chargeable light to 38 orphans and other valuable items to other vulnerable in society.
