Saboba (N/R), Nov. 1, GNA - Mr Charles Apoosan, Saboba/Chereponi District Director of Health Services on Wednesday said pragmatic measures were in place to ensure that all children in the district were immunised.

Mr Apoosan told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Saboba shortly before the commencement of the programme that the Health Directorate had organised sensitisation campaigns in churches and schools, other relevant groups on the need to vaccinate their children against childhood killer diseases.

He said the Catholic Relief Services supported the district with a vehicle to enable them reach some six Ghanaian communities in Togo to ensure that all children there were covered.

Mr Apoosan said community leaders in its operational areas were cooperative and expressed the hope that the district would not encounter any resistance from any group, saying, "We started the campaign since September 20 and I hope that the exercise is going to succeed." The District Director said the district had received full logistical support, including funds and materials from the Northern Regional Health Directorate for the exercise.

He said additional personnel from the Tamale Nurses' Training College arrived in the district on October 31 to support and that the district also received 10,400 bed nets for distribution to children aged below two years.

He said the only problem that would face the five-day programme was the interrupted power supply, which was likely to affect the freezing of the ice packs, and the deplorable nature of the roads.
