Accra, Aug. 8, GNA - The Tema General Hospital children's ward has received a boost in its infrastructure position following the refurbishment of its premises by Safebond Africa Limited, a leading maritime and logistic= s company in the country.
The GH¢20,000 renovation works, included electrical re-wiring of th= e children's ward, renovation of the entrance to the ward, installation of electric fans, air-conditioning and the construction of a fence round the ward. The company again donated five hospital beds, 50 mosquito nets and bales of window curtains to the ward, all as part of its corporate social responsibility programme. According to the Group Deputy Managing Director of Safebond Africa Limited, Mr Isaac Kodom, it was the decision of the company not only to pay its taxes to help with the development of the nation, but also leave a legacy in the hearts of the people and communities within the scope of its operations.
"In line with this policy we have painted the whole ward and drawn cartoon characters to make the environs child friendly," said Mr Kodom. Dr Kwabena Onwona-Agyemang, the Paediatrician and Head of the Children's Ward, expressed gratitude to Safebond for the kind gesture and noted the tremendous goodwill the company had extended to ailing children i= n the true corporate spirit of giving back to society for mutual benefit. He explained that facilities at the ward were overstretched and that "not less than 300 children were admitted to the facility quarterly". Dr Onwona-Agyemang, therefore, urged other corporate organisations to emulate the example set by Safebond, by providing support to the hospital. Safebond Africa Limited recently made a cash donation to cover the surgery and maintenance of Robert Amoah, 12 years, who was diagnosed of brain tumour at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Besides offering assistance to health institutions, the company's social responsibility also centres on the environment, education, sports an= d media sub-sectors of the economy.
As part of its contribution to the enhancement of education in the Tema Municipality, Safebond over the years had also made cash donation to schools like Chemu Senior High School and Corpus Christi. Until last year, Safebond had been a sponsor of the CNN Africa Journalist of the Year Award.
