A medical outreach programme to bring quality healthcare to the poor and the vulnerable has been held at Sawaba, a community in the Asokore-Mampong Municipality.

It was organized by the Health Ministry in partnership with the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).

A team of medical specialists were on hand to screen and provide eye, ear, nose, throat and dental care, as well as treat people of other diseases.

They were also given health education and children immunized against childhood diseases

Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, Clinical Care, said it was vital to routinely carry out such exercises to make healthcare accessible to the poor and the vulnerable.

He noted that many were suffering from various health conditions but had chosen to stay away from the hospitals because of financial constraints.

He said it was important to reach out to such people to bring help and comfort to them.

He appealed for support from organizations to sustain the outreach programme.
