Madam Gladys Gbadagbali, the Ashaiman Municipal Health Promotion Officer, has called on adolescent girls not to hide their menstruation from their parents so as to receive good hygienic guidance during such periods.

She urged the girls not to use papers during their menstruation since such materials could be dangerous to their health, but rather use sanitary pads.

Madam Gbadagbali said this during an event organised by the SOS Children’s Villages-Ghana, on menstruation sensitisation for school girls at Ashaiman under its “Quality Education Now” programme.

She said the girls should not take advantage of their menstruation period to absent themselves from school and should carefully package used pads and drop them into toilet bins.

She called on parents to support their girl-child during such periods.

Madam Rosemond Boamah, the Programmes Director of the SOS Children’s Villages Ghana – Tema, urged boys to aid the girls at school at the time of their menstruation by subtly drawing their attention to blood spot in their dresses rather than taunt them.
