Nkankama (E/R), Dec. 18, GNA - The national policy of adopting a preventive approach to combating HIV/AIDS was given a further boost at the weekend when a day's workshop was organized for schools at Nkankama, near Begoro in the Fanteakwa District.

The participants were drawn from the community, including the Catholic, Anglican and Local Authority Primary schools, farmers, market women and other workers.

Speaking at the workshop, the chief of the town, Bafour Boadi, appealed to the participants to consider measures aimed at checking the rapid rate of the spread of the disease in the area. He advised the people to aim at preventive instead of curative measures in tackling the deadly disease and appealed to the youth to make proper use of their time for profit making ventures to improve their standard of living.

Bafour Boadi appealed to schools in the area to initiate projects to enable them to acquire money to purchase teaching and learning materials.

He suggested the setting up of an educational fund to assist the needy but brilliant pupils. The chief appealed to the youth to take farming seriously to earn them decent living.
