Senior Dental Surgeons schooled on Oral Implantology

Twenty Senior Dental Surgeons, who have completed a study on oral implantalogy, the science of replacing missing teeth with artificial implants, were awarded with certificates of recognition in Accra.

Eighteen of the grandaunts were Ghanaian Senior Dental Surgeons, practicing in the University Dental Schools at the 37 Military Hospital, Regional and Districts Hospitals at Abetifi Kwahu in the Eastern Region, while the other two work in Armadiyya Hospitals in Ghana and Germany.

This was contained in a statement signed by Ahmed N. Twumasi, Public Relations Officer of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on Thursday.

It said the four-modular international post-graduate programme was conducted by World-class Professors and Dental Technicians from Germany and Ghana.

The statement said the course was organised by the Academy of Medical Sciences/Across Services from Germany, University of Ghana Dental School with support from the Ministry of Health and the Armadiyya Muslim Mission.

It said the course commenced its first module on April 13 and 14 at the University of Ghana, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, and continued with the second and third modules in July and September 2012, and would end with the final module on January 25 and 26 2013.

Maulvi Dr Abdul Bin Adam, Ameer and Missionary –in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, said the programme would cost 200,000,00 Euros.

It would be borne by the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, led by its supreme head, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmed, Khalifatu Masih V, and the Academy of Medical Sciences/Across Service Company from Germany.

“This is a further contribution by the Mission towards the provision of social and health care services in developing countries in general and Ghana in particular”, Maulvi Adam said.

Dr Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira, Director General of the Ghana Health Service, who represented the sector Minister of Health, commended the World-class professors and dental technicians from Germany for educating the Surgeons in Oral Implantology.

He called for Oral Implantology to be made part of the curriculum of the Ghana Medical School as well as a faculty at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
