Sunyani, Aug 03, GNA - Only seven out of 19 municipal and district, in the Brong-Ahafo Region were able to start operating the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) that took off in the region on Monday, August 01.

Mr Philip Akazinge, Regional Coordinator and Advisor of the Scheme, said this at the opening of a three-day 2005 mid-year review and 2006-2008 planning and budgeting session that began at Sunyani on Tuesday.

He gave the list of districts that have started the scheme as Asunafo, Asutifi, Berekum, Dormaa, Jaman North and South and Nkoranza. Mr Akazinge said technical hitches, including the late appointment of municipal and district chief executives to man those areas as problems that prevented the scheme from taking off in the remaining areas.

He said operations would take off in Sunyani municipality by August 15, 2005.

''While some of the remaining districts would be expected to take off by the end of August, the commencement time of others might eat into mid-September or at the close of it.''

The region recorded 503,204 persons and premiums paid amount to 13,662,500 cedis.
