Sherigu, (UE) May 18, GNA - The Chiefs and People of the Sherigu Traditional Area, Upper East Region, has appealed to the Government not to demolish the structure of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for the reconstruction of an ultra modern hospital. They made the appeal on Wednesday at a Press Conference they called at Sherigu, near Bolgatanga. Naba Apasipanga Ayuuseyine, who read their statement, explained that he and his sub chiefs had offered a large parcel of land, which the Regional Minister and Regional Directorate of Health Service had inspected, and wondered why they still wanted to pull down the structure of the Regional Hospital. According to them, the Regional Hospital should rather be converted into a Municipal Hospital.

They called on the government to re-examine the cost element of demolishing the Regional Hospital and said the money should be saved for the construction of the modern hospital on the land they had willingly offered to government.

"Indeed, the Bolga Sherigu Traditional Area has four vantage areas that we think are suitable for the construction of the Regional Hospital," it said. "These lands have road networks, which make the areas accessible to the Navrongo-Bolgatanga, Bolga-Tamale and Bolga -Sherigu -Naga main roads. All these roads are less than five kilometres from Bolgatanga Town." According to them, the Sherigu Traditional Area had been marginalized by successive governments in terms of development but locating of the Ultra Modern Hospital in the area, would facilitate development.

It would be recalled that the citizens from the Bolgatanga, Nabdam, Bongo and Tongo (BONABOTO) on May 4, also held a similar press conference protesting the demolition of the Regional Hospital. BONABOTO also stressed the need for the Ultra Modern Regional Hospital to be put at Sherigu where the chiefs had offered land for the project. They also advocated the Regional Hospital should be converted into Municipal Hospital instead of demolishing it.
