Sunyani West receives insecticides nets

The Sunyani West District has received 53,600 pieces of Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs) for the free distribution campaign slated for May 3- May 9.

Madam Agnes Kusi, District Chief Executive (DCE) announced this at a stakeholders and District implementation Committee meeting at the weekend at Odumase in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The rationale for the one week pilot programme expected to be implemented nationwide by the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies “is to prevent the occurrence of malaria through universal coverage distribution of LLIN”.

Madam Kusi who presided over the meeting expressed the Assembly’s preparedness to support the District Directorate of Health Services to achieve high percentage rate of success in the exercise.

She commended the efforts of the Directorate in ensuring effective health services delivery in the District.

Madam Kusi said government is committed to support efforts by Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service to reduce, if not totally eliminate the incidence of the malaria in the country.

She therefore appealed to stakeholders, especially residents in the District to cooperate particularly with the volunteers and supervisors who would be doing the distribution for the exercise to achieve its object.

Madam Eva Aryee, District Director of Health Services said the Directorate had trained 152 community health volunteers, besides supervisors for the execution of the exercise.

Madam Aryee said unlike the previous exercise in 2012 where some unscrupulous volunteers took advantage of the situation to extort monies from some households, the mode of distribution this time is pre-exercise registration of households.

She said as part of the strategies for the distribution, “households are being issued with coupons after registration, for those coupons to be used for the collection of the nets at various collection points”.
