The Stakeholders in Effutu Municipality championing the curbing down of HIV/AIDS in the area has appealed to the government to put in place innovations to help People With Disability’s (PWDs) to attend HIV/AIDS disease programme.
The programme aims to help PWDs to contribute their quota towards the elimination of the disease in their society and community.
The stakeholders made up of, representatives from the Assembly, the education directorate, Assemblies of God Unisex Virgins a community Based Organization (CBO) on HIV/AIDS made the appealed at meeting held to discuss activities of a project that can be carried out to help curb down HIV/AIDS disease in Effutu Municipality.
The project is dubbed “Innovative Community Integrated Intervention “ and has been contracted to the CBO by Hope for Future Generations a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) a grantor of Ghana AIDS Commission is funding the project.
The project is aimed to reduce HIV new infection among women in their fertility age and young people in Effutu Municipality, and which has been also executed in other seven districts in the Central Region.
Mrs. Emilia Kittiah, Executive Director of the Assemblies of God Unisex Virgins briefed the gathering on activities to be carried, which included, refreshing training for per-educators, monthly condom promotion/free counseling and testing and Community Education on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission.
She stated further that, with regard to the awareness creation on the disease in the Municipality, a large number of people tested currently, zero positive result was recorded.
The group after deliberations decided to involved the PWDs in all the activities and in regard there was therefore the need for something to be done in other for them to be always part of programmes and that will let their voice be heard and also for them to be well-informed on issues and directives that will protect them in all endeavors.
The Effutu Municipal Monitoring and Evolution focal person on HIV/AIDS, Mr. Joseph Cobblah told the group that, since the PWD’s are in the community they should be reached on one and one basis in other to be aware of their problems and help to solve them.
