TB patients urged to do away with superstition

Kumasi, April 19, GNA - Ghanaians have been advised to do away with superstitious beliefs and the negative perception that tuberculosis is caused by witchcraft.

Madam Grace Dwomoh, Mass Education Officer at the Kumasi Metro Office of the Department of Community Development, said TB, which was an airborne disease is curable and asked sufferers to report symptoms of the disease early enough to health facilities for free treatment. Madam Dwomoh was speaking on the causes and prevention of TB at a forum organized by 'Church of Pentecostal Believers' at its annual Easter convention held in Kumasi.

She appealed to relatives of TB patients not to shun them but encourage them to seek early treatment.

She advised TB patients to eat fruits and vegetables and take balanced diet to improve their nutritional status. Reverend David Agyapong, Overseer of the Church and Reverend Peter Owusu Afriyie, Kumasi district pastor, asked members of the congregation to keep their environment clean to avoid infectious diseases.
