The governing board of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has commissioned a new theatre dedicated to handling emergency cases.

The new theatre facility, located in the Accident and Emergency Department, is expected to offer services to patients requiring emergency operations and surgeries.

Speaking at the commissioning of the facility, Dr. Michael Yelibora, Deputy Director of Medical Affairs, noted that the new theatre will reduce pressure on the main hospital theatre, thereby improving the quality of care.

"We will now receive the cases here, stabilize them, and turn the emergency cases into elective cases. So, this is a great achievement," Dr. Yelibora said.

He expressed his gratitude to the board and management of the hospital for putting up the facility, noting that they worked hard to put the new theatre into operation.

Board Chairman Dr. Mahmoud Hamid Nassir-Deen commended the management and staff for their efforts in making the theatre operational.

He said the new theatre would be a source of pride for the institution for many years.

"I pray and hope that this is something we are going to be proud of. During my first tenure, we tried so hard. I was so shocked when I was informed that this theatre was ready," he said.

The board members are also inspecting other development projects such as the expansion of water storage, an oxygen plant, a corporate clinic, a refurbished children's emergency ward, and the bed management unit.
