Tamale, May 27, GNA - Some residents of Tamale on Monday donated blood to the Tamale Teaching Hospital as part of efforts to address the problem of blood shortage at the hospital's blood bank. The Ghana Nurses and Midwife Trainees' Association (GNMTA) organised the exercise as part of activities to mark its annual week celebration.

Mr. Seidu Abass, President of the Association, told the GNA that the hospital needed about 100,000 pints of blood annually to meet the increasing demand.

He said normally the hospital needed between 20 and 25 pints of blood daily but during the peak season the demand increased. Mr. Abass said as part of the celebration, members of GNMTA would go on an outreach programme to educate mothers on essential topics such as: "Growth and development monitoring of the child", "oral dehydration", "exclusive breast feeding", "Immunisation" and "screening".
