The Tema Lube Oil Company Limited (TLOC) has donated an ambulance to the Ashaiman Polyclinic to assist the facility deal effectively with emergency cases.

The ambulance, which is worth GH¢ 303,000.00, is welcome news to the polyclinic since it would cure delay and end reliance on use of inappropriate means of transporting critically ill patients to and from the Ashaiman Policlinic.

In a speech on Thursday before the handing over of the facility, the Board Chairman of TLOC, Mr. Kow Abaka Quansah, informed that his company decided to assist Ashaiman Polyclinic due to the huge numbers the facility served daily, overseeing a population of over 350,000 people.

Mr. Quansah said that due to lack of an ambulance facility at the hospital, “Critically ill patients, as well as women in labour who must be referred for further management at other health facilities, have had to be transported mostly in taxis because of the absence of an ambulance.”

“Consequently, when the Polyclinic approached us at TLOC with a request for an Ambulance, the Board decided to grant the request since its availability would go a long way to enhance the quality of service delivery at the Facility and hopefully prevent needless deaths,” he added.

Mr. Quansah noted that his outfit was happy to donate a new ambulance, which was fully fitted with requisite instruments and equipment. “We have also decided to bear the cost of comprehensive insurance cover for the vehicle for a year” he added.

The Managing Director of TLOC, Mr. Amos Donkoh, observing how well the company had taken CSR issues, said, “Lube Oil can say that it has done something for almost all the communities surrounding the company, because we’ve made donations to Tema General Hospital, Tema Polyclinic, Tema Newtown and now Ashaiman Polyclinic, not to talk about the police post we built and assistance to educational institutions around us.”

Mr. Donkoh observed that it was the desire of the company to ensure that it came to the aid of the Tema community and beyond with assistance that would make the lives of the people better in the areas of Health, Security, Education and Sanitation in an attempt to give back to the communities they operated in.

The Medical Director of Ashaiman Polyclinic, Dr. Mavis Opong Addoh, was grateful to TLOC for the gesture, observing that it was going to greatly enhance their work since patients and staff no longer had to wait for transportation during emergencies.

“This would improve the quality of care because emergencies happen all the time and this facility is going a long way to help us combat them,” she added.
