The Tema Chapter of the Lion’s Club (LC) on Friday organised a free eye screening exercise for the residents of Tema Newtown.

Seventy five people, made up of 33 males and 42 females underwent various tests, including that of the retina and refraction for correction.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Principal Nursing Officer in charge of the eye in clinic, at Tema General Hospital, Ms. Olivia Elorm, said the eye is a delicate part of the body hence the need to take good care of it.

She said residents who have undergone the screening would be given a referral note if there is a need to visit an eye clinic.

The Principal Nursing Officer advised the residents to visit an eye clinic regularly and also go for eye check-ups.

Meanwhile, the Lions club has presented two cartons of Heineken beer, two bottles of whisky and a bottle of red wine to the Tema Mantse at his palace, as their widow’s mite, in preparation towards the Kpelejoo Festival from the 4 of April.

Nana Addei-Duah Brempong I, Activity Coordinator for the occasion, said the presentation of the drinks and the eye screening exercise was done to honour the Tema Mantse, who is a member of the Lions Club, on his elevation to the highest stool of the land.
