Cape Coast, Oct 21, GNA - The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, Dr Eli Atsupui, on Wednesday gave the assurance that the activities of Medical Assistants will be duly regulated and registered by December this year, to enhance their operations. He stressed that the increasing awareness of the public on their health rights, as well as the mounting litigation between care givers and patients, required that the practice of medical assistants was regulated.

Dr Atsupui was addressing the 8th annual general meeting of the Ghana Medical Assistants Association (GMAA) in Cape Coast, on the theme: "Mental Health in the Primary Healthcare, Setting the Role of the Medical Assistant".

The four-day meeting brought together all medical assistants from across the country.

Dr Atsupui commended them for their immense contribution towards healthcare delivery in the country and pledged that everything possible will be done to support their operations.

Dr Appiah-Denkyira, Human Resource Director of the Ministry of Health, also paid tribute to members of the Association for being there for the people at the grassroots and pointed out that they had been available in the face of mass exodus of health personnel from the country and urged them to continue to offer invaluable services to the people as they will be duly rewarded.

Dr Appiah-Denkyira asked them to submit their reports on time for documentation, saying it was through that that their unique services to the remotest part of the country would be recognised. He also asked them to offer services to patients at prayer camps in their areas and make follow ups to monitor their health status. 21 Oct 10
