Accra, Feb. 3, GNA - Thirty-two Midwives on Friday received Voluntary and Counselling Test (VCT) tools to assist them counsel pregnant women and individuals on HIV/AIDS. The Ghana Registered Midwives Association (GRMA) received the equipment, which was donated by the National AIDS Control Directorate and Strengthening HIV/AIDS Response Programme (SHARP), a nongovernmental organisation.
Mrs Ernestina Djokotoe, National President of GRMA, said the Midwives, who were selected form the Eastern, Ashanti, Western and Greater Accra Regions, were the first to benefit from VCT and Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS. She appealed to the beneficiaries to use the equipment for the intended purpose and expressed the hope that the programme would be extended to the remaining six regions.
The equipment included 29" inch colour television sets, DVD/VCD players, surgical goggles and boots, stainless steel buckets and pedal bins.
