Nyinahin (Ash), Jan 25, GNA - The Atwima-Mponua District Health Directorate recorded 33 tuberculosis (TB) cases in 2006 as against 19 in 2005.
Out of the number, six were declared fully cured while the rest are still receiving treatment.
Mrs Belinda Baffoe-Bonnie, the District Director of Health Services, said this at the annual health performance review meeting of the directorate at Nyinahin on Tuesday.
She said three maternal deaths were also recorded in 2006. She said the directorate gave priorities to the improvement in the control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, child health care delivery and chalked 100 per cent in the recent immunisation activity. Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie said her outfit was able to sponsor two community health nurses in midwifery training school, three staff to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to pursue degree course in nursing and anaesthetics and a medical assistant course at Kintampo.
She said problems facing the directorate were the lack of transport for outreach programmes and financial inflow. Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie said the directorate would strengthen the sub-district health system, accelerate the implementation of community-based health planning and capacity building of staff. She said a youth friendly centre has been established to improve adolescent reproductive health in the district.
