The United Nations of Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is demanding healthcare and financial accountably into the operational activities of the Ministry of Health announcing a cut in aid to the sector.

Ghana’s healthcare donor partner is requesting detailed accounts of financial resources the government receives to facilities healthcare delivery in the country.

“Ghana is now a low middle income country and in context where external funding resources are declining it is important that the sector fully account for every cedi spent in terms of results achieved for Ghanaians”, the country’s representative for UNICEF, Madam Susan Namondo Ngongi said.

At 2017 Health Summit themed “Accountability in the sector to achieve the health related SDGs” the country’s representative stressed the need for government to bring accountability to the health sector.

“Perhaps Ghanaians are not receiving quality of healthcare they deserve and it will be important for development partners to strategize their implementation of quality healthcare delivery”

UNICEF expressed concern about the increasing rate of maternal deaths captured in the 2016 performance review under the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) which aims at ensuring health and wellbeing for all ages.

In addressing maternal deaths, UNICEF called on government to support strategies that will be employed to achieving aims and objectives of SDGs through proper allocation of resources to the health sector for efficiency.

The Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu earlier announced to the health workers enough resources will be pumped into the sector for quality delivery of services.
