Bibiani (W/R), Oct. 20, GNA - A nine-member team comprising seven from the Safe Haven Project, a United States (US) Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and two from Live and Let Us Live, their counterparts in Ghana, have launched an HIV/AIDS sensitisation programme in the Bibiani, Awaso and Bekwai districts of the Western Region. Target groups include students of basic and second cycle schools, churches and communities.
Speaking at a programme for basic school pupils at Bibiani, Mr Dave Butler, Leader of the team and director of the Safe Haven Project, said it was the avowed aim of the group to intensify their sensitisation programme in order to reduce the prevalent rate of the deadly disease. He advised the people about the inhuman treatment meted out to the people living with AIDS and the stigmatisation associated with it and said they should have love for them. Mr. Emmanuel Anipa, Bibiani District Focal Person on HIV/AIDS, advised the pupils to learn hard to become useful citizens in society since they are the future human resource of the country. He deplored the attitude of the Bibiani district education directorate for failing to attend the function even though they were duly invited to participate in the programme.
