Vice-President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur will join the people of the Upper West Region at Nadowli-Kaloe to launch a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) policy today.

The Vice-President will also use the opportunity to commission 64 CHPS compounds in the region.

The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), realising the leadership being displayed by President John Dramani Mahama, decided to assist government to put up 64 CHPS Compounds in the Upper West Region.

Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Health, Mr Tony Goodman said the ceremony will take place today at Loho in the Nadowli District.

He explained that after several years of implementation of the CHPS policy, President Mahama tasked the Ministry of Health with the responsibility of redeveloping the CHPS policy to fit into modern healthcare system.

According to him, a series of national CHPS fora were held with all stakeholders, and out of these a policy document was born.

Mr Goodman noted that the document talks about the CHPS concept, Human Resource capacity at that level and the other infrastructure.

“Hitherto, there wasn’t any clearly defined type of building for CHPS compounds; now, one is sure of what type and style of building which constitute a CHPS compound.

“We are grateful to Cabinet Secretariat and its DELIVER Programme, our development partners, especially JICA and DFID, who are complementing the government's effort in this area.

“The Government of Ghana will continue to provide healthcare facilities to the people of Ghana to enable us bridge the equity gap in healthcare delivery”, he added.
