The Western Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, on Thursday confirmed that one case of Pneumococcal Meningitis has been reported at Essam in the Bia West District.

He said the Service had anti-biotics to manage the case.

He however entreated people who experience neck pains, headache, vomiting and severe fever to report quickly to the nearest health facilities.

He told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the Service had mobilized adequately to manage the disease.

He noted that the dryness of the weather had made people vulnerable to infection and asked Ghanaians to drink a lot of water and avoid hot places.

Currently, the disease has been reported in six regions of the country with a number of deaths in Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Region.

Dr. Tenkorang observed that late reporting of the disease would limit an inflected person's chances of survival.
