The Health sector Non State Actors have pledged to ensure accountability and improvement in the health sector to enhance standards of living.
The Non State Actors is a group of Civil Society and Non-Governmental Organisations in the Health sector that have come together with a mutual interest.
According to them there are lots of challenges that the sector is confronted with and thus the need to have a common platform and a strong front to address the issues.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the official launch of the Health Sector Non State Actors Charter, Executive Director of Hope For Future Generations (HFFG), Cecilia Senoo, revealed that core amongst the mission of the consortium is to put pressure on government to ensure accountability.
She bemoaned the lack of openness from State players in the industry insisting that vital information is kept away from stakeholders rendering them clueless of updates in the sector.
She cited past cases to buttress her point that government is a major stakeholder in the Health sector therefore the Non State Actors will do all they can to fight for the interest of the ordinary citizen
“There are so many challenges in the Health sector, the government is doing something but there is so much the government needs to do. Recently in Tema General Hospital we got to know that some of the HIV positives were given expired ARV…the fire that destroyed central Medical Stores is something we are monitoring, we are calling for the report, universal access we still have gaps, the NHIS which is self-financing we still have problems, there are so many things that are happening” she noted
“The government at times needs this to ensure that things get addressed. Ghanaians deserve a lot of justice. There should be openness with what is happening and this is that is what we are in to do as Non State Actors” she remarked
The Consultant to the consortium, Louis Agbey explained that membership of this group is limited strictly to NGOs, CSOs and individuals within the Health sector.
He also stated that unlike other groups and consortium the Non State Actors will not have and existing secretariat that will bind them but member institutions will be allowed to operate on their own and only come together when issues come up
The Non State Actors launched their charter in Accra on Thursday and indicated that it was going to be a very strong platform to guide policies and initiatives to achieve the desired change needed in the country’s Health system.
This initiative was spearheaded by the Hope For Future Generations (HFFG), Society for Women and Aids in Africa (SWAA) and West African Aids Foundation (WAAF).
