Women in the country have been admonished to do self breast examination at least once every month in order to avert being taken unaware by the deadly breast cancer disease.

Dr Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, President of Breast Care International (BCI) Ghana, who gave the advice, also urged women to visit the hospital once every year for clinical examination of their breast.

She said breast cancer is curable through early detection and prompt medical care, charging women to always be on the look-out so that breast cancer would not send them to their graves.

Dr Wiafe-Addai, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peace and Love Hospitals, gave the advice whilst addressing hundreds of market women at the Kumasi central market as part of the ‘Pink Month’ celebrations.

The ‘Pink Month’ is celebrated worldwide every October to create awareness about the deadly nature of breast cancer.

The event saw about 1,000 traders at the market having their breast and eyes screened for them freely. The traders also had their blood and sugar levels checked for them by experts.

Dr Wiafe-Addai urged women and men to seek for medical attention immediately they detect any unusual feeling in their breast so that they could be effectively treated to avert calamity.
