Work to resume on UHAS multi-purpose laboratory complex – Regional Minister

James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, has announced that work is set to resume on the Multi-Purpose Laboratory Complex of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho.

The Minister made this known during a working visit to the project site with the First Sky management team to assess the status of the facility, which has been stalled for several years.

The complex, described as the largest multi-purpose laboratory facility in West Africa, was awarded in 2014, but work came to a halt following a change of government.

Gunu expressed optimism about the renewed efforts to complete the project, noting that the remaining works include screeding, plastering, ceiling installation, tiling, finishing works and some external developments.

“When completed, this facility will significantly enhance the capacity of UHAS, increase medical student intake and provide students with a modern, practical training environment,” he said.

The Minister commended First Sky Group for its renewed commitment to return to site and complete the project within the next two months.

“The decision by First Sky Group to resume work demonstrates confidence in the immense potential of UHAS and the Volta Region,” he stated.

Gunu noted that completing what is considered the largest laboratory complex in West Africa would not only strengthen medical education but also position the Volta Region as a leading hub for health training and research.

He reaffirmed the Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to reviving and completing stalled projects to advance development and improve opportunities for students and the future workforce of the region.
