The Frimpong-Manso Institute commemorated World Heart Day with a pressing call to African leaders to strengthen community health systems aimed at reducing cardiovascular disease (CVD) on the continent.
This year's theme, "Use Heart for Action," emphasizes collective action to address CVD. The Institute urges governments to intensify awareness and educational campaigns, policy advocacy, and context-based research to prevent CVD.
Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong-Manso, President of the Institute, stated in a press release on Monday, September 30, 2024, called on all stakeholders to work together to prioritize cardiovascular health and empower individuals to take control of their heart health.
"CVD remains a significant public health challenge in Africa. By supporting individuals and urging leaders to take action, we can reduce the burden of CVD and promote healthier communities," the statement said.
The Institute emphasizes that adopting healthy lifestyles is crucial in preventing CVD. This includes regular physical activity, balanced diets, and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption.
Furthermore, the Frimpong-Manso Institute advocates for increased investment in healthcare infrastructure and research. This will enable the development of effective interventions and improve access to quality healthcare services for African communities.
As the world marks World Heart Day, the Frimpong-Manso Institute reiterates its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote cardiovascular health. The Institute encourages all stakeholders to join forces in the fight against CVD and create a healthier future for Africa.
