Young people express opinion about Ebola in Koforidua

The spread of the Ebola virus in some West African countries has engaged the attention of some youths in Koforidua.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) hit the road to interact with some to get their opinion on the Ebola virus, Mr Fianko Ampofo, a student, said the country is not well prepared to bear the looming problem.

He said when he visited the Kotoka International Airport recently; he saw only a few staff wearing protective gloves.

Mr Ampofo criticized the media for not giving enough information on the disease and advocated the closure of the borders of the country to prevent the spread of the virus.

Mr Boakye Yiadom, a student of Accra Polytechnic, is of the view that the many unauthorized entry points to the country is a threat.

However, he is of the view that there is hope for the country since there has not been any reported case of the virus yet and the immediate neighbouring countries like Togo, Burkina Faso and La Cote d’Ivoire have also not had any cases yet.

He commended the media for the publicity done so far and asked medical officials to stay alert to save the country from any epidemic.

Mr Enoch Otchere of the Samplet Educational Complex said the country needs the requisite human resource capacity, medical supplies, logistics and public health education in readiness against the disease.

Mr Addo Kuffuor, a teacher, said even though there is no recorded case of Ebola there is panic in the country.

He called for the intensification of public education to help reduce handshakes, hugs, and limiting the contact with corpses, to help prevent the spread of the virus should anyone contract it.
