52 Babies were delivered on the New Year Day in Kumasi

Kumasi, Jan. 2 GNA - Fifty-two babies were delivered in six government health institutions in the Kumasi Metropolis on New Year Day. Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) had the highest number of births totalling 34, with 20 girls and 14 boys as against total births of 31 on the Christmas Day with 24 boys and seven girls. Madam Mercy Ofori, Nurse Manager for Obstetric/Gynaecology Directorate of KATH said 23 of the deliveries on the New Year were normal while 11 were through caesarean sections. She stressed that there were neither abnormalities nor maternal deaths among the babies and that, the babies and their mothers were doing well.

Manhyia District Hospital recorded six deliveries. According to Mrs. Grace Appiagyei, Principal Midwifery Officer on duty said five males and one female were delivered on the New Year Day. At the Suntreso hospital, Miss Charlotte Owusu, Principal Midwifery Officer told the GNA that the Maternity Ward recorded six births, comprising four females and two males. Tafo hospital recorded four deliveries, Mrs Juliana Abrokwaah, Senior Staff Midwife on duty said, stressing that they were three females and one male, while the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) had one delivery of a boy on New Year Day. The Kumasi South Hospital recorded two deliveries, a male and a female, Miss Joyce Appiah, Senior Staff Midwife said.
