GFA's President calls for support for Malaria eradication

Accra, July 10, GNA - Mr Kwasi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has called on Ghanaians to offer the necessary support for the eradication of malaria so that more future stars would be unearthed.

He said malaria is a dreaded disease which kills most young children who will grow to become the future players and that everything possible must be done to ensure its elimination.

Mr Nyantakyi made the call when officials of 'Add Your Voice Now', a Non-Governmental Organization helping to fight the disease through sports, called on the GFA President in Accra on Thursday. He said the problems of malaria eradication is worldwide and that Ghanaians should not leave the responsibility to the government alone to shoulder.

Mr Nyantakyi advised all to observe environmental cleanliness which was the best way to prevent the disease. He also appealed to players and sports men and women to ensure that they use the mosquito treated nets to keep them safe at all times. The GFA President commended the company for their initiative and asked other non-governmental organizations to emulate their shining example.

Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive of the company who led the delegation to make the call, said the company was in talks with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to extend the programme to other CAF member countries and expressed the hope that the company would achieve its avowed aims. Mr Francis Oti Akenten, Head Coach of the Black Maidens also appealed to football loving fans to undertake clean-up exercises at least once every week to ensure an environment-clean society. Madam Janet Offei, mother of Black Stars' Eric Bekoe called on parents to take the problem of sanitation seriously for the total eradication of the disease.
