Juaben (Ash), Sept. 2, GNA - About 210 pregnant women have benefited from the Government policy of free delivery for pregnant women in the country, since it's inception a month ago, at the Juaben Government hospital in the Ejisu Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Mr Francis Boadu, Juaben Government Hospital Administrator, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Juaben at the weekend, commended the government for instituting the programme to make child delivery easy and affordable to all pregnant women in the country.
He said before the programme many pregnant women were detained at the facility after delivery, because they were unable to settle their bills.
He said some of the new mothers run away and left their babies at the hospital, but the programme has brought an end to that situation. Mr Boadu cautioned the midwives at the hospital not to take advantage of the programme to collect any illegal money or any thing from the women at the time of delivery, because the health authority would not tolerate such acts, aimed at undermining the programme. He however advised women not to use the programme to get pregnant, because the programme only covers the delivery, and appealed to the government to extend the programme to cover the first two months of post natal care for the new born babies.
