Don't be deceived, register for health insurance-Horner-Sam

Tarkwa (w/r) Sept. 10, GNA - Madam Sophia Horner- Sam, Deputy Minister for Railways Ports and Harbours, has advised Ghanaians not to be deceived by the opposition parties, who complaint about the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the free maternal health care for pregnant women.

She said the policies were meant for the good of all Ghanaians and women in particular and every woman should register with the NHIS to benefit from it.


Madam Horner-Sam said this at Tarkwa on Wednesday during the campaign tour of Mrs. Akufo-Addo, wife of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, who is on a three-day tour of selected districts and constituencies in the Western Region. She urged supporters of the NPP to embark on individual campaigns to enable Nana Addo to win the elections massively and convincingly. Madam Horner-Sam said the registered voters in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency must vote massively for Mrs. Gifty Eugenia Kusi to enable her to represent the area in Parliament.

Mrs Akufo-Addo during a visit to the Tarkwa workers market pledged to assist modernize the place to befit its status and ensure that women who trade there do so comfortably, when Nana Akufo-Addo was elected. She said the various policies introduced by the government especially, the Capitation grant, school feeding programmes, free bus ride for school children, NHIS among others were all laudable ideas that are aimed at transforming the lives of many Ghanaians. She later presented toiletries to the maternity wing of the hospital and visited the women on admission. "The benefits of the NHIS are laudable, alleviating poverty and transforming lives of many people, who previously could not have had access health care.


She commended the hospital staff for providing good health services for he women and other sick persons at the hospital. Receiving the items Mr Allan Anku, Health Services Administrator at the Tarkwa Government hospital, expressed his appreciation to Mrs Akufo-Addo for visiting and encouraging the patients on admission. The women have so far visited Essipon, Sekondi, Takoradi, Axim, and Tarkwa and are expected to visit, Wassa Akropong, Amenfi Central and Bibiani, all in the Western Region.
