Ajumako (C/R), March 21, GNA - Ms Doris Ahelegbe, Ajumako- Esiam - Enyan, District Director of Health, has advised mothers to report early to the medical centres with their sick children to minimise child mortality in the area.
She said most deaths among children were preventable, if mothers desist from seeking medical care from traditional healers first and only report to the health centres when their conditions were critical. Ms Ahelegbe gave the advice at a two-day training programme for volunteers of the Community Integrated Management of Childhood illnesses at Ajumako.
The programme was organised by the District Health Directorate for 90 participants drawn from communities like Nkokwo, Ofabir Atwere, Mboana , Asanan, Ajumako and Esiam.
Mrs Esther Amankwa, Senior Public Health Nurse said the training was aimed at exposing the volunteers to the techniques of identifying diseases like malaria, diarrhoea and respiratory tract infections. She said the training would also make them to identify signs and symptoms of common communicable diseases and refer them to the district health centres.
Mrs. Amankwa said the volunteers would also carry out educational campaign in their communities on personal hygiene and other related health matters. 21 March 10
