Nice questions, what are the causes? Sadly our politicians are only interested in media attention by arresting so-called corrupt former government officials. As they usually do play chaskele the cases till a new government comes and the cases die. The Airbus, Ford expedition, Isofoton, fertilizer, etc. are typical examples.

Back to the topic. So far as we eat food prepared from food items bought from markets in Ghana, we are not far from kidney problems. Our farmers and traders are only interested in the profits they make but not the health of their customers. The farmers spray their crops with dangerous chemicals to get a good yield. Vegetables are sprayed to get them ripened even if they are matured. Grains are sprayed with dangerous chemicals to avoid insect infestation. Meat products are smeared with formalin to preserve them. These days even houseflies do step on meat products in our markets. Some dried fish (momone) sellers actually spray insecticides on them when they find maggots in them. Whose duty is it to ensure food safety in our markets?
Sadly in Ghana we choose wealth over health. All our health workers, including doctors and nurses, FDA officials, Ghana Standard Authority officials, politicians, etc. all eat food prepared from food items bought from the same markets. Instead of doing what they are paid to do so that all people living in Ghana benefit, they either remain inactive or take bribes and leave. Most of the can products in our markets have not been approved by any authority and some are expired.
Ironically, most of these traders are religious people. but they sell these unwholesome products to equally religious people they meet at the church or mosque every day. Are we safe?

Herbal medications are the number one cause of kidney issues in the country. Most of these herbs have extremely toxic side affects on the kidneys but no studies are done on them. We take these herbs to treat our waist pains effectively not knowing that the side effects would damage our kidneys six months down the road. We never associate the kidney damage with the herbs, since the side effects take longer to manifest.

One dangerous aspect is that a lot of these herbalists mix Western medicine with herbs to treat ailments which the Western medicines are supposed to treat. Sadly, most of these media outlets (TV and radio) allow them to advertise without approval from anywhere. It is worse at the communication centers in the suburbs where most residents are illiterates. What about concoctions given to some believers by fake pastors, who approved them?

Honey is mixed with melted matress and mosquito sprays are sprayed on dried fish to keep off flies etc. Pesticides are sprayed on food and chemicals like glyphosat etc are sprayed on all vegetables in Ghana. Anybody can let a tv station sell their drugs and the Ghana Standard Board is full of unqualified and corrupt satanic people......
